FAQ

All you wanted to ask

How long does it take you to complete an illustration?

It depends on the illustration; sometimes one hour -- and sometimes I can draw for more than 30 hours!

Where do you get your ideas from?

Everywhere! Sometimes I can be standing at a bus stop on a cold rainy day and see a father hurrying to school with his daughter, and then -- voila! -- an illustration is formed in my head and I get an irresistible itch to get it down on paper (or screen). Other times I am just scribbling while talking on the phone and suddenly I notice I drew something really cool. But usually I just draw what I feel, or what I am thinking and experiencing.

How does digital art work?

I use a program called Manga and have a special tablet with a touch-sensitive pen that I attach to my computer. Digital art can be harder than regular art because you have to mentally disconnect from what your hand is doing and focus only on the screen. It takes a lot of practice to master the technique.

When do you draw?

All the time! But I find that I draw more at night.

Does drawing and illustrating come naturally to you, or is it something you worked hard to master?

The answer is half-half. I used to think that a real artist is someone who possesses 100 percent talent and can produce artwork effortlessly. But one of my art teachers always used to say that an artist must have 10 percent talent and 90 percent skill. So these days instead of admiring pure talent, I find myself wishing for the patience to obtain that 90 percent skill…

I have an illustration I need done, well, yesterday. What are my options?

Yes, I do rush jobs.

A typical job is completed between one to three weeks after finalizing the specs; however, a rush job can be completed in a timeframe ranging anywhere between a day to a week. (Please note that rush jobs have an additional fee.)
