Pick a Style

Stage One:

You may know exactly what style you’d love to use for your illustration. But you may also have only a basic idea in your mind. This is the time to browse through different styles; you can take a peek at my gallery, have a look at Pinterest, or check out any other place that might give you inspiration. Once you decide what style would be perfect for you, it's time for me to do the work!

The Sketch

Stage Two:

After we discuss the scene and style, I will make a brief sketch of your illustration so you can get a basic idea of the composition and feel, and see where it’s heading. This is a great time to request as many changes as you want, add details or share any other feedback!

Inking

Stage Three:

During this stage, I draw a clear inking that will outline the illustration.

Color

Stage Four:

The fun stage! When picking a style, you will be picking a family of colors that will work for your illustration. A serious portrait will call for natural, more muted colors. A cute illustration for a kid’s magazine will mean happy, vibrate colors.

Shading:

Stage Five:

Shading adds depth to the illustration and gives it a three-dimensional feel. Shading can take hours, depending how realistic and nuanced a look you want.

Perfecting

Stage Six:

This is the time to add the last hints of light or shadow, any finishing touches -- all the tiny details that can make your illustration really POP!
